First beta available

Ok, here we have a first beta release of FRED; let's call it v0.1. You can download it and see installation instruction, at the Fred Home Page.

Each releases before 1.0 (that will be the first stable one) will address specific issues: for this 0.1 we are mainly interested in having feedback on installation and performance, so don't expect fancy features yet .. you can test FRED with some xml files we have provided in the distribution, or you can try to use the HepRepSvc.

An internal (for me and Marco I mean) issue is how to improve the distribution of Fred .. we are planning to provide an internal Fred mini-distribution of all the needed package (Ruby, Fox etc etc), so that people don't have to install them on their machines; I'm going to contact the Ruby and FOX creators for legal issues and I'll let you know ..

On the other side we have a big support from the FOX community .. Marco, on working with Fred, found two problems in the actual stable release of FXRuby (1.0.17), contacted the author 2 weeks ago and this morning a new FXRuby (1.0.18) has been released that solves that problems .. I call this a "user support" .. we are plan to put this new release on work for Fred next week.

HepRepSvc

I've started to work again on HepRepSvc; I need to fix some small bugs and issues for GlastRelease, but it seems to work well now. I've also started to work on reconstructed data for the HepRep. For now I've done a new filler, ReconFiller, and a subfiller CalReconFiller; I've just grabbed the code from CalDisplay and converted (quite easy, the code was very well written) it to HepRep land .. I've just started, but it should fast to end this and to do the ACD one .. for the TKR there are much more things to be displayed, so I'll need some more time
