Magic è il più grande telescopio per raggi gamma ed è frutto di una collaborazione internazionale tra Germania (BMFB e MPG), Spagna (CICYT) di cui per l’Italia fa parte l’Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare con le università italiane di Padova, Pisa, Siena, Trieste e Udine.
Un secondo telescopio MAGIC, 'MAGIC-II', posto a distanza di 85 m dal primo, sta per essere inaugurato. Si prevede che il funzionamento in stereo di entrambi i telescopi aumenterà la sensibilità dello strumento da circa 3 volte. |

Magic is the biggest Cherenkov light telescope in the world for the gamma astronomy rays and it’s the result of an international collaboration to which the researchers of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (Infn). The project is funded primarily by the funding agencies BMFB (Germany), MPG (Germany), INFN (Italy), and CICYT (Spain).
A second telescope ‘MAGIC-II’, located at a distance of 85 m from the first, is going to be inaugurated. It is expected that the stereo operation of both telescopes will increase the sensitivity of the instrument by around 3 times. |
